Recently, I have been feeling a bit listless/directionless and keep having intrusive thoughts of starting a podcast, so I have to course-correct my writing practice for the sake of my sanity. I have been trying to refill my creative stores by just playing around with writing new mediums/styles/genres. No deadlines or destinations, I’m just getting back into the habit of creating for myself and for the experimentation of it. I also love trying mediums I think I’m “bad” at because when I look at my other work it suddenly looks incredible by comparison. So, today’s prompt kills two birds.
This is from one of my favorite poets, Jericho Brown (what an incredible name, right?). In this video (below), he describes the process of writing a poetry form he invented called a “duplex.” Follow Jericho’s steps and create something special!
I’m watching The Holiday and The Family Stone, as I do every year.
I’m reading “everyone wants to be a lit girl” from
and “How to Be Less Online in 2025” byI’m listening to “The Cupid Shuffle” because that’s what the Salvation Army donation guy is inexplicably blasting outside the cafe I’m in.
How did it go? I would love to read your poems if you feel like emailing them to me!
Also, if you didn’t catch my announcement about my TV Writing Writing Sprint in January, read about it here! I’d love to have you join us!
Also, also, I have received a few pledges from extraordinarily kind and generous folks who’d be willing to support my work financially if I activated the paid subscriptions on Substack.(wild) The weekly prompts will always be free, but I am curious for those who pledged: what kind of paid content would provide value to you as a Writer? TV craft lessons? Interviews with writers? Practical TV career tips/breaking in advice? I’ll put imposter syndrome aside for a bit and just listen to what you all want and need. Feel free to comment or email me back if you have any thoughts on this!
See ya next week. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!:)
Thank you so much for mentioning me!! I love this idea for a writing prompt!
